  1. the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings are the surprise teams in the league, with the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls disappointing so far. Phoenix also has a disappointing record, but they are playing without Amare' Stoudemire and Dan Majerle, and they played a fantastic game against the Lakers, with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar winning at the buzzer.

  2. As of July 9: Atlanta and the Los Angeles Lakers lead their respective conferences. Boston and Utah are also still among the unbeatens, though the Celtics are without Larry Bird and Bill Russell due to injury. The Denver Nuggets are the surprise last winless team, unable to stop anyone from scoring. The surprise teams: the Bucks, Kings, and Thunder. The disappointing teams: the Bulls, Knicks, and Suns.

  3. At the halfway point of the season, Atlanta, Boston and the Lakers are still unbeaten. The top surprise teams are Milwaukee, Oklahoma City, and New Jersey, while Denver, Dallas, and Washington are disappointments. New Yourk, Chicago, and San Antonio are starting to heat up after slow starts. Early season MVP candidates include Sacramento's Oscar Robertson, Utah's Karl Malone, and the Lakers' Magic Johnson.
